Sega, the Japanese gaming company that brought us both beloved consoles like the Sega Dreamcast and iconic characters like Sonic the Hedgehog, has brought many of its classic franchises to Android with games such as Crazy Taxi, Super Monkey Ball, and of course a plethora of Sonic games. Sega began as a console maker as well as a game developer, but shifted purely into being a developer and studio around the turn of the century, cashing in on a variety of successful game series across console and portable gaming systems, especially Nintendo, with whom Sega has an exclusive agreement for several Sonic games. Sonic the Hedgehog is both Sega's mascot and their most profitable franchise, having sold over 85 million copies since its inception in 1991. Sega of America has released many classic Sonic titles on Android, including the original Sonic the Hedgehog from the Sega Genesis.

Another of Sega's classic games, Crazy Taxi, which rewards players for driving like absolute maniacs, has migrated to Android in addition to new version Crazy Taxi City Rush, which gives players new seasonal challenges and obstacles. While some of Sega's games are traditional buy-once games, many have shifted to the freemium model with in-app purchases, so parents should be sure to lock their purchase controls before handing over these kid-friendly games to their little tykes. And most of Sega's titles are fun for all ages, but there are a few games like House of the Dead and Total War Battles that should be kept away from younger players.
